Thank you!

First Book-Central Montgomery Donates 1,900 Books!

First Book-Central Montgomery announces that 1,900 new books will be given to five literacy programs that serve Montgomery and Bucks Counties' children in need.  Programs include The Indian Valley Boys & Girls Club, North Penn Valley Boys & Girls Club, Mom’s House of Greater Philadelphia, Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton, and Child, Home & Community in Doylestown. Each child will receive approximately four books, enabling the children to start their own home libraries they can share with their siblings and families. They will also receive a bookplate on which to place their names celebrating the importance of book ownership.

“We are excited to use the funds we raised in 2012 to reach out to children in need and share the love of reading,” said Amanda Wendell, First Book-Central Montgomery’s Chairperson.

First Book-Central Montgomery is part of First Book’s national network of volunteer-led Advisory Boards who provide new books to children in need in communities across the country. These book grants were made possible through local fundraising efforts by First Book-Central Montgomery and by generous contributions from local businesses.

First Book-Central Montgomery raises over $4,000 to distribute in grants!

First Book-Central Montgomery PA, raised over $4,000 at its first fundraising event at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center—doubling their fundraising goal for their novice year!  This money transfers into over 1,500 books to be distributed to low-income children in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties through grants. There are many children from low-income families living in the Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery Counties with little or no access to books. First Book-Central Montgomery is accepting grant applications now through the beginning of February. Please find more information about being a Book Grant Recipient or contact the Recipient Group Liaison, Susan O'Halloran at centralmontgomery@firstbook.org.

Book Grant Recipients

A typical book grant lasts for a one-year period and offers each child in the program a steady diet of books (usually one book per month), all at no cost to the program. Because program administrators select the titles through First Book catalogs, our book grants enable programs — often for the first time — to select books to integrate into curriculum.  Find out How to Receive Books for your organization.
