Truman State University Celebrating 5 years of books to kids...
The Kirksville chapter of First Book is a recent addition to the wonderful campus organizations at Truman State University. We have two wonderful co-presidents and a new executive board. In fact, the recent creation of this advisory board of First Book means that we are on the look-out for potential new members! Our primary focus is to fundraise through the year so we can buy books for local groups of in-need children. Members get the satisfaction of helping out the community of Kirksville and seeing the outcome of their efforts. We are an organization always willing to embrace new members, so if you feel interested, feel free to participate in one of our weekly meetings on Thursdays in Baldwin Hall room 303 at 6:30 PM! Book Grant RecipientsFirst Book-Truman State University has given book grants to many programs in Kirksville area. A typical book grant lasts for a six month period and offers each child in the program a steady diet of books (usually one book per month), all at no cost to the program. Because program administrators select the titles from the First Book Marketplace, our book grants enable programs — often for the first time — to select books to integrate into curriculum. The following are some of the organizations that have received book grants from First Book-Truman State University.
