Northern Virginia
First Book-Northern Virginia is an Advisory Board comprised of local volunteers from a wide cross section of the community which began in 2003. We have joined forces to provide new books to low-income children in community based programs serving the following counties: Arlington, Alexandria City, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun. Together, we select programs to receive book grants, raise funds to support the purchase of new books for the children in these programs, recruit additional members from the community, and participate in national cause-based marketing events and campaigns. Book Grant RecipientsA typical book grant lasts for a six month period and offers each child in the program a steady diet of books (usually one book per month), all at no cost to the program. Because program administrators select the titles from the First Book Marketplace, our book grants enable programs — often for the first time — to select books to integrate into curriculum. First Book-Northern Virginia has given book grants to many programs in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax, Loudoun, Manassas, and Prince William.
