Kennebec County, Maine
Established in 2001, First Book–Kennebec County has provided thousands of brand new books to low-income children in Kennebec County. This is accomplished by donating books through several local literacy initiatives including Head Start, Parent’s As Teachers Programs, after-school and day-care programs that serve qualifying children. All Advisory Board members are volunteers with the same goal – to spread the love of reading to those who need it most. We have been in hiatus for the past couple years but are reactivating and need your help. Our mission is to help the under-served children of Kennebec County so that each child has his/her own library– 6-12 new books to call their own! Please help us - $2.00 gives a child a new book, $30 – a library. Book Grant RecipientsFirst Book-Kennebec County has given book grants to many programs in Kennebec County, Maine. A typical book grant lasts for a six month period and offers each child in the program a steady diet of books (usually one book per month), all at no cost to the program. Because program administrators select the titles from the First Book Marketplace, our book grants enable programs — often for the first time — to select books to integrate into curriculum. The following are some of the organizations that have received book grants from First Book-Kennebec County.
