Greater Green Bay About First Book
The First Book-Greater Green Bay Advisory Board was founded in the Summer of 2007 by Lauren McLester – Davis and her parents, Joan and David McLester-Davis. Aligned with the mission of First Book, First Book–Greater Green Bay is dedicated to providing children from low-income families with their first new book and is joining First Book’s fast-growing, nationwide community to battle illiteracy directly in Greater Green Bay, Wisconsin. First Book-Greater Green Bay is a completely volunteer organization—there are no salaries and no overhead for the group. Contributions go towards the purchase of new books for children in Greater Green Bay. Book Grant RecipientsFirst Book-Greater Green Bay has given book grants to many programs in Greater Green Bay area-Brown, Outagamie, Kewaunee, and Door Counties. A typical book grant lasts for a six month period and offers each child in the program a steady diet of books (usually one book per month), all at no cost to the program. Because program administrators select the titles from the First Book Marketplace, our book grants enable programs — often for the first time — to select books to integrate into curriculum. The following are some of the organizations that have received book grants from First Book-Greater Green Bay.
