Anne Arundel County, MD

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, each year First Book distributes millions of free and low-cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them.

First Book–Anne Arundel County was created in August 2008 to increase the availability of new books to children from low income families. Since its founding in 2008 First Book--Anne Arundel County has donated more than 350,000 new books to children from low-income families across the county. 

“When children learn to read they have the key that opens the door to all the knowledge of the world. Without this key, many children are left behind.” U.S. Department of Education. We at First Book – Anne Arundel County are committed to making as many “keys” available to children from low income families as possible.

We hope Early Childhood Reading Programs throughout Anne Arundel County will reach out to us at aacounty_md@firstbook.org to form effective book distribution partnerships.

We have established some ambitious goals but our success will only be possible if committed community partners come together to provide the funding and resources we will need. If churches, businesses, state and county agencies, foundations, and individuals will join with us we will make a significant improvement in our community.
